Making it Our Business

In 2010, the NSW Government, led by the Department of Premier and Cabinet, set a target to increase the representation of Aboriginal people in the public sector to 2.6 per cent by 2015.

The Government-wide Aboriginal employment plan, entitled Making It Our Business Action Plan 2009 – 2012 identified a series of opportunities to make employment with the NSW public sector more attractive and fulfilling for Aboriginal employees.

Cox Inall Ridgeway developed a number of employment policy guidelines and recommendations that helped drive the implementation of the Making It Our Business Action Plan, including: Guidelines for Confirming Aboriginality; advice on Criminal Record Checks; Consideration of Informal Experience; establishing an Aboriginal mentoring program; and structuring culturally appropriate career planning and secondment programs.

The culmination of the project can be seen at, a site designed for Aboriginal job seekers, current employees, managers and HR personnel in the NSW public sector.
