Luxottica’s global eye health charity, OneSight, strives to eradicate the global vision care crisis in our lifetime. Through their OneVision program, OneSight provides access to quality eye care and eyewear in underserved Indigenous communities in Australia, currently in the Queensland Gulf communities of Mount Isa, Doomadgee and Mornington Island.
To support OneSight volunteers running eye health clinics in Indigenous communities, Cox Inall Ridgeway developed an online introductory cultural awareness training module. All staff travelling and working in Indigenous communities as part of the OneVision program are required to complete the online module, which is complemented with an in-community cultural awareness session conducted upon their arrival.
The online format ensures the training is accessible for staff across the country to complete, and ensures volunteers travelling to Indigenous communities have an appropriate expectation of what it will be like working in these communities, and are familiar with cultural history and protocols specific to the region.
